African Lion Safari is a Canadian family business founded by the late Colonel GD Dailley in the name of conservation. On August 22, 1969, the park opened to the public with 40 lions in 3 reserves; today, the park houses more than 1,000 animals including over 100 species. The way they display the animals is completely different from the traditional way; that is, tourists are kept in their cars and the animals roam the 2 to 20 hectares (5 to 50 acres) protected area. The park covers more than 750 acres, of which 250 acres provide animals with large swathes of shrubs, meadows or forests where they can interact naturally with other animals.
